I’m Lu, a tattoo artist based in Chicago. I got my start in Michigan, where I went through an apprenticeship but had to figure out most of the craft on my own. My mentor showed me the importance of staying clean and safe, but when it came to actually tattooing, I had to teach myself. My first tattoo was on myself, and from there I learned by building slowly, making mistakes, and shaping my style as I go.
In the beginning, my work leaned toward illustrative designs. Over the past three years, it’s grown into something more surreal — fine-line black and grey pieces with symbolism, contrast, and an editorial influence. I like tattoos that feel strange but timeless, the kind of designs that makes people stop and look twice.
What matters most to me is the experience in the booth. No matter who you are, I want you to feel welcome, respected, and leave with work we’re both proud of. Tattooing isn’t just about the image — it’s about the memory tied to it and the trust that goes into creating it.
If your ideas align with my work, let's create something together.
